Our Commitment
PenangDev is committed to providing a welcoming, inclusive, safe, and harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of age, body size, disability, ethnicity, gender identity and expression, level of experience, nationality, personal appearance, race, religion, or sexual identity and orientation.
We aim to build a respectful and collaborative developer ecosystem in Penang where people can learn, share, and grow together.
This Code of Conduct applies to all PenangDev spaces, including but not limited to:
- In-person events and meetups
- Online platforms (Discord, website, social media)
- Workshops, talks, hackathons, and community projects
- Any other community-related interactions, both online and offline
Our Values
Respect
We value respectful behavior toward all community members. Disagreement is no excuse for poor manners. We assume good intent and work together to resolve conflict constructively.
Inclusivity
We welcome people of all backgrounds and identities. We strive to create an environment where everyone feels safe to participate, speak up, and contribute.
Collaboration
We believe in the power of community. We share knowledge, support each other's growth, and collaborate to strengthen Penang's tech ecosystem.
Integrity
We act with honesty and transparency, take responsibility for our actions, and hold ourselves accountable as a community.
Expected Behavior
All participants are expected to:
- Be welcoming, friendly, and patient
- Treat others with kindness, courtesy, and respect
- Be respectful of differing viewpoints and experiences
- Gracefully accept constructive feedback
- Use inclusive and welcoming language
- Respect personal boundaries and privacy
- Contribute positively to discussions and activities
- Support newcomers and encourage collaboration
Unacceptable Behavior
Harassment and other exclusionary behavior are not acceptable. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Violence, threats of violence, or violent language
- Harassment, intimidation, stalking, or following
- Discriminatory, sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist, or hateful language or jokes
- Posting or displaying sexually explicit, pornographic, or violent material
- Unwelcome sexual attention or advances
- Personal insults or attacks, especially related to identity or background
- Sharing pirated software, illegal content, or malicious tools
- Sharing malware, exploits, phishing links, or hacking instructions
- Inappropriate photography, recording, or distribution of images without consent
- Sustained disruption of events, talks, or discussions
- Impersonation of PenangDev Team, speakers, sponsors, or other members
- Any behavior that makes others feel unsafe or unwelcome
Language
English is the primary language used across PenangDev platforms to ensure clear communication and inclusivity.
Bahasa Malaysia (Malay) is welcome as a supporting language, reflecting our national language.
Other languages (such as Mandarin, Tamil, or dialects) may be used in casual conversations. However, for technical discussions, announcements, or when others are participating, members are encouraged to use English or provide an English summary so everyone can follow along.
Consequences
Participants asked to stop unacceptable behavior are expected to comply immediately.
If a participant engages in behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, PenangDev organizers and moderators may take any action they deem appropriate, including but not limited to:
- Verbal or written warnings
- Temporary restrictions or muting
- Removal from an event or online platform
- Permanent removal from the community
PenangDev reserves the right to take action even if a behavior is not explicitly listed here but is deemed harmful to the community.
Reporting
If you experience or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any concerns, please report it to the PenangDev team as soon as possible.

All reports will be handled confidentially, respectfully, and with discretion.
Scope
This Code of Conduct applies to all PenangDev-related activities and spaces, including:
- Community meetups and events
- Workshops, talks, and hackathons
- Discord server and online discussions
- Social media interactions
- Email communications
- Any other official PenangDev activities
